Outlook Express version 6.0 Setup for InterMail Note: These instructions apply only to InterMail users who want to use Outlook Express version 6.0 to retrieve their email. For more information on Outlook Express version 6’s advanced options, see the software documentation. If you are using Outlook Express version 5.0, click the link to the right to view configuration instructions. (You can check the version that you have by clicking Help within the software and then About Microsoft Outlook.) If you are unsure of the Outlook Express version you are using, verify this information within the application by selecting the Help menu, and then About Microsoft Outlook. 1. Open Outlook Express. 2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
3. The Internet Accounts screen will be displayed. Click Add and select Mail to add a new email account.
4. The Internet Connection Wizard will open. You will be prompted to enter the Display Name. This name will appear in the From field in the messages you send. You can enter your full name or a nickname in this field. Click Next.
5. The
Internet E-mail Address screen will be displayed. In the E-mail
address field, enter the full email address of the account you are
setting up in the following format: name@mydomain.com.
6.
The Email Server Names will be displayed. Select POP3 from
the Type pop.registeredsite.com in the Incoming mail server field. Type smtp.registeredsite.com in the Outgoing mail server field. **Notice on ISP BLOCKING: Consult your Internet Service Provider (ISP)’s documentation if you want to use your ISP’s outgoing mail server instead. Click Next.
7. The Internet Mail Logon screen will open. In the Account Name field, enter your full email address (for example, name@mydomain.com). In the Password field, enter your email account’s password. Passwords are case sensitive. If you do not want to enter your password each time you check your email, select the Remember Password checkbox. Click Next.
8. The Congratulations screen will be displayed. Click Finish.
9. You will be returned to the Internet Accounts screen. The account that you just configured should be displayed in the list. Click Close.
10. To check your email, select the Tools menu at the top of the main Outlook Express screen, select Send/Receive, then select Send/Receive All. You can also check your email by clicking the Send/Recv button on the Outlook Express toolbox.
Note: If you are able to receive mail, but not send it, the likely cause is that your ISP is using SMTP blocking, which means that it is interpreting mail received from your outgoing mail server as spam. To correct this, you may need to use your ISP’s
outgoing mail server instead of smtp.registeredsite.com as shown at
step 6 in these instructions. Please contact your ISP for
assistance. |
